Midweight Interior Designer (Retail & Experiential)

West London | Up to £48k, dependent on experience

Role snapshot

  • A young, independent studio designing retail and experiential spaces for brands
  • Pop-ups, installations, retail concepts, and roll-outs
  • Around 3 to 5 years’ experience, though your portfolio matters more than the number
  • SketchUp is a must
  • A small team, so your work and ideas are visible from day one

About the studio

We’re working with an independent spatial design studio in West London. It’s small, hands-on, and already building a body of work that gets noticed.

Their focus is how a brand’s values can be experienced in physical space: through materials, form, colour, atmosphere, and how a space feels to move through. The work covers pop-ups and installations, retail design and roll-out, and creative strategy and direction. They work closely with clients’ internal teams, and every project starts from curiosity and an awareness of context and impact.

It’s an early-stage studio, which means a chance to join before the name gets around.

The role

This is a hands-on design role for someone ready to take more ownership of their work and grow towards a senior position.

Working closely with the studio’s leadership, you’ll be involved throughout the design process, from research and concept development through to space planning, 3D, visualisation, materials, detailing, and design-intent drawings. You should be comfortable developing a concept rather than simply executing one, and increasingly confident making design decisions on your own.

It’s a small studio, so everyone mucks in.

What you’ll be doing

  • Contributing to retail and experiential projects from initial concept through design development and delivery
  • Generating ideas and translating them into strong spatial proposals
  • Developing space planning, 3D models, visualisations, materials, fixtures, and design details
  • Building and maintaining well-organised SketchUp models
  • Producing clear, accurate design-intent drawings and documentation
  • Creating presentations that communicate ideas and design thinking clearly
  • Researching materials, finishes, fabrication methods, and references
  • Coordinating with clients’ teams, fabricators, and project partners
  • Taking responsibility for your own workload, deadlines, and deliverables

Who we’re looking for

  • A strong portfolio showing conceptual thinking, spatial design ability, and well-resolved work
  • Experience within a spatial, retail, experiential, or architectural design practice
  • Retail, brand environment, pop-up, or installation experience
  • Excellent SketchUp skills (essential)
  • Strong rendering and visualisation skills
  • A good understanding of materials, fabrication, construction, and detailing
  • The ability to read architectural drawings and produce design-intent documentation
  • The ability to communicate ideas quickly through sketches, diagrams, and visual references
  • Strong presentation and graphic communication skills

The person

Someone curious about what’s happening beyond conventional interiors: brands, materials, art, fashion, and where physical retail and experience are heading. You don’t need to know everything. What matters is that you take responsibility for your work, ask good questions, and want to keep improving.

Why this one

  • Join a young studio early and help shape what it becomes
  • Variety across pop-ups, installations, retail concepts, and roll-outs
  • Exposure to the full life of a project, from creative thinking to delivery
  • Room to learn quickly and take on more, without disappearing into a large practice
