Senior Interior Designer (Retail & Experiential)

West London | Up to £60k, dependent on experience

Role snapshot

  • A young, independent studio designing retail and experiential spaces for brands
  • Pop-ups, installations, retail concepts, and roll-outs
  • A senior, hands-on role leading projects from idea to delivery
  • Typically 6+ years’ experience, though your portfolio and thinking matter more than the number
  • SketchUp is a must

About the studio

We’re working with an independent spatial design studio in West London. It’s small, hands-on, and already building a body of work that gets noticed.

Their focus is how a brand’s values can be experienced in physical space: through materials, form, colour, atmosphere, and how a space feels to move through. The work covers pop-ups and installations, retail design and roll-out, and creative strategy and direction. They work closely with clients’ internal teams, and every project starts from curiosity and an awareness of context and impact.

It’s an early-stage studio, and the senior hires made now will shape what it becomes.

The role

This is a senior, hands-on design role for someone with strong creative judgement and the ability to take a project from first idea through to delivery.

You’ll be a strong conceptual designer who is equally comfortable resolving an idea: planning, materials, fixtures, detailing, visualisation, drawing packages, and coordination. You’ll take the studio’s creative direction and make it stronger, bringing your own ideas and perspective rather than simply executing a brief.

At this level, it’s about more than your own output. You’ll own projects, make sound decisions independently, spot problems before they become issues, and raise the quality of the work around you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading retail and experiential projects from concept through design development and delivery
  • Developing and strengthening the creative direction of projects with the studio’s leadership
  • Turning strong concepts into coherent, buildable spatial solutions
  • Producing and overseeing space planning, 3D design, visualisation, materials, detailing, specifications, and design-intent drawing packages
  • Running projects day to day, managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Presenting work to clients and communicating the design thinking clearly
  • Coordinating with clients’ teams, consultants, contractors, and fabricators
  • Reviewing and directing the work of other designers, and helping shape how the studio works

Who we’re looking for

  • An established track record at Senior Designer level within a spatial, retail, experiential, or architectural design practice
  • A strong portfolio of distinctive, built spatial projects
  • Significant retail and brand environment experience, with pop-up or installation work a plus
  • Excellent SketchUp skills (essential)
  • Strong rendering and visualisation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, fabrication, construction, and detailing
  • The ability to produce and oversee clear, accurate design-intent drawing packages
  • Strong presentation, storytelling, and client-facing skills
  • Experience directing and mentoring other designers
  • Good commercial awareness across scope, programme, fees, and budgets

The person

Someone culturally engaged with a point of view, curious about brands, materials, art, fashion, and where physical retail and experience are heading. That curiosity is balanced with pragmatism: great ideas matter, but so does how something will be made, what it will cost, and how it will perform. You see what needs doing and take responsibility for it.

Why this one

  • A senior seat in a young studio, with real influence over the work and how the studio grows
  • Variety across pop-ups, installations, retail concepts, and roll-outs
  • Direct access to the studio’s leadership and clients
  • Involvement across the full life of a project, from creative strategy to delivery on site
